Relationships and Pastoral Counseling

My name is Liako. I am a professional counselor and trainer who has specialized in both Relationships Counseling and Pastoral (Christian) counseling. I was born and grew up in Maseru, and living and working in the Netherlands since 2009. It is also here where I completed my 4-year education as a counselor. I am married with two beautiful daughters.
I carry out my work as a counselor with involvement, experience, expertise, passion, and pleasure. People matter to me, and that can be felt in my relationships with the people in both my practice and in my life. My approach is respectful and understanding to each of the parties involved. I make use of all my professional experiences as well as those as a partner, parent, friend, sister and daughter.

In the course of my counseling master, I developed a method I named “Morethetho Oa Likamano” (relationship rythm). It is mainly based on two existing theories, Emotionally Focused (EFT) and Solution Focused, but also takes into account the very specific cultural, economical and social issues in Lesotho. Depending on the wishes of the client, I can apply my knowledge of Pastoral Christian Counseling. I use the Word without judgement as a guide and a source of wisdom.
The underlaying methods are scientifically proven to be some of the most effective for dealing with relationship issues. They also work fast, often leading to major and measurable improvements after just a few sessions.
Also, my method is not rigid but flexibly applicable to any situation in any type of relationship, romantically or other like for example between parent and child, siblings or friends.
In couple therapy, the relationship is the client. Together, we will investigate the dynamics that cause conflicts. Understanding the deeper source of negative feelings and looking at the way they make us behave and how this affects the interactions in the relationship is a big step towards understanding and defusing the situation.
Although it is preferred that both parties are involved in the counseling, it is certainly possible to make good progress with only one.
We will start with a short conversation to get to know each other and shortly discuss the problems in the relationship. This session is free of charge and allows you to assess whether you feel comfortable to start the actual counseling sessions.
If you decide to proceed I will send you a short questionnaire from which I can get to know you better and get a more detailed insight in the situation. This allows me to prepare for the first real session to be as effective as possible.
We can set goals and assess after every session how much progress you feel has been made. It helps to make our progress measurable!

I live and work in the Netherlands, but my dream and passion have always been to make a difference for Basotho at home and all over the world.
To that end I have started a practice in Maseru East, where I can receive my clients comfortably and privately for sessions via the internet on a large screen.
Of course, it is also possible to do this via your phone or computer if you don’t live in Lesotho or if that is more convenient for you.
Each session takes 1,5 hours and costs M 550,-
Sessions are booked one at a time without future obligations.
Booked sessions can be rescheduled or cancelled free of charge, but only up to 24 hours in advance.
